Progressing Dugong & Seagrass Conservation in the Western Indian Ocean
Dugong MOU, CMS
This special session during the symposium aimed to bring together experts and government representatives from the Western Indian Ocean region to develop a common workplan on regional dugong and seagrass habitat research and conservation. The overarching objectives of the symposium were for stakeholders to learn about the work being conducted in the region and to identify how to improve regional coordination and optimise shared research related to marine megafauna and seagrass habitats, with the potential to contribute to biodiversity conservation, ecosystem management, livelihood and climate change issues.
