The Dugong & Seagrass Hub has published A Global Assessment of Dugong Status and Conservation Needs – the first comprehensive update of global dugong status and conservation priorities in more than 20 years.
Commissioned by the Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) and produced in partnership with James Cook University, the publication updates and expands upon the landmark 2002 reference Dugong: Status Report and Action Plans for Countries and Territories.
The assessment brings together the latest available information on dugong populations, threats, conservation actions, and seagrass habitats across the species’ range. Developed with contributions from regional experts, the report provides both a global overview and dedicated chapters covering nine geographic regions.
The publication is intended to support governments, researchers, conservation practitioners, and other stakeholders working to conserve dugongs and their seagrass habitats.
